ISPCS 2014 Plugfest Report

The IEEE International Symposium on Precision Clock Synchronization (ISPCS) is a yearly hold conference focusing on the latest developments in clock synchronization focusing on IEEE1588. An unique extension to the conference is the preceding so-called plugfest. Clock synchronization vendors from all around the world come together to test the newest technologies and to verify that their newest products interoperate with other devices. As every year, Oregano Systems attended the conference as well as the plugfest.

New technologies as well as established techniques have been successfully tested. There had been special sessions for the following new areas:

  • Transporting PTP over IPv6: The industry is calling for IEEE1588 solutions supporting IPv6
  • G.8275.1: The second version of the telecom profile is shortly before being officially published. It has been successfully tested by Oregano Systems in collaboration with a few other companies.
  • Enterprise Profile: A new PTP profile targeted at large networks (e.g., in the financial industry)
  • C37.238 revision 2014: The first revision of the PTP profile for the power industry
  • Bringing redundancy and reliability to IEEE1588 systems using High availability seamless redundancy (HSR) and Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP)

Like in the past, Oregano Systems provided the syn1588® Visual Measurement System (VMS) – a multichannel high accuracy 1 PPS measurement system – for all participants allowing them to evaluate the offset of their respective PTP device to reference signal of the PTP Grandmaster via an easy to use Web-interface.

Oregano Systems is proud to be at the front of development in IEEE1588 and to be deeply involved in bringing PTP to new areas and industries.
