The IEEE1588 Precision Time Protocol is known for its highly accurate synchronization characteristics in the range of a few nanoseconds. In the recent past, a special synchronization characteristic received growing attention: The need for extremely short lock times – in the range of a few seconds after power-on.

Oregano Systems presents an optimized synchronization algorithm to meet this new requirements. Lock times – the time until a PTP node is locked below a certain offset – below 5 seconds can be easily achieved. Lab tests showed that Oregano Systems‘ syn1588®VIP is able to lock below a 1 microsecond offset after connecting a network cable in 3 to 5 seconds. 

In the near future this algorithm will be included in the regular version of Oregano Systems‘ syn1588® PTP Stack.
